• Driver and transit supervisor building
• Accessibility platform with 2 van bays
• 220 car Park & Ride lot
With a new mixed-use Town Center project, in design concurrently with design and construction of the Transit Center, the City intends to improve the pedestrian and non-motorized environment. The project Park & Ride lot may be the site for a future Transit Oriented Development project with integrated multilevel parking.
Urban Design Challenge:
As a part of the master plan to renew Burien’s core, the urban design challenge for this facility was to achieve a sense of place now, amidst a field of surface parking and single story commercial buildings, and in the future when the center will be part of a pedestrian-oriented and mixed-use community.
Architectural Design Challenge:
1)Adherence to prescriptive and performance parameters provided by the public agency client.
2)Incorporation of functional materials, components, details, and dimensions specific to a transit project type.
The approach was to redefine the order and method of application for these standard components. We applied standard modules and materials in a system of slight variations that reconsiders the standard forms and modules while remaining true to their function and civic use.
Integrated Public Art:
Canopy and windscreens comprise 300 panels of glass with a unique graphic frit pattern, designed by the project artist and derived from photographs taken of the nearby tree canopy.
