This is an immense workplace. It is definitively industrial as an experience, charged with the sights and sounds of people assembling large commercial aircraft. This building sits on an even larger factory campus unconnected to commercial amenities, so you probably take your breaks here, eat your lunch here, and share with your peers here.

The manufacturing process here is streamlined. It’s orderly. It entails technologies and processes aimed at one thing: producing quality aircraft as efficiently as possible. As it should. But these same processes and technologies and machinery in this immensity of interior space can make it pretty tough to take breaks from work—to find those little moments that help you recharge throughout the day.

The Amenities Upgrades Program provides spaces within this factory to find respite; to recharge; and to connect with one another both formally and informally. The design of each space contributes to the overall improvement of working in this incredible facility, while each space is an improv on that overall theme.

Each space in this program is relatively small. Each is modest in scope, yet—by immersing users in a context that’s smart, exciting, and different from the factory—each has a big impact on the human experience of the factory. This is design as culture change.
