Design Objective:
Higher density project with a medium density visual impact on local neighborhood.

Design Description:
On less than an acre, create a senior care community with more than 100 living units, including living amenities for high end market residents. Located adjacent to a local historic redevelopment district and bordered by commercial and residential neighborhoods.

To keep the building mass and scale from over-imposing itself on the adjacent residential neighborhood, the building was divided into 3 forms and articulated to express three distinct estate houses that resonated with the local design vernaculars. Views of the city, park and Bellingham bay were optimized and the adjacent City bike / walk trail park enhanced as part of the project.

Located in an area known for cool and wet winter conditions, the community is designed to provide multiple interior entertainment and social opportunities with a theater, 3 dining venues, recreation and fitness options. The interior open air landscaped courtyard provides a wind sheltered outdoor option with sitting areas near the Bistro fireplace, aviary and koi pond. An atrium allows for open sky, sun seating during cold weather. The dining room is designed to expand onto an out door courtyard that is sheltered from breezes and provides views across the street to the City Park.

Green, sustainable materials and energy efficient systems have been included to provide a healthy environment and create a sustainable building.
